Community Supported · Locally Owned

Calgary's guide is free.
Keeping it that way isn't.

everythingcalgary.com isn't owned by a media group or a broadcaster. It's an independent, locally owned guide to Calgary and the Calgary Region — and everything on it, for everyone, is free to read. If it's useful to you, help us keep it running.

What your support actually pays for

No vague promises. Here is where the money goes, in plain terms.

🗞️

Local news, gathered every hour

Headlines, events, obituaries, road conditions, gas prices, air quality and cinema times are pulled in around the clock from across the Calgary Region — so one page tells you what's happening today.

🏪

Free listings for 10,000+ businesses

Every business in the region has a page here whether they pay us or not. Non-profits post events free, forever. That is deliberate, and it's the part that costs us rather than earns us.

💬

Someone to talk to at 2am

Our anonymous wellness service needs no login and no name, and the conversation is encrypted with a key we never hold. It exists because the alternative in a small city is often nothing at all.

Chip in

Any amount genuinely helps. Monthly helps most — it's what lets us plan past next month.

How would you like to give?

🔒 Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own page and never touch our server. Cancel a monthly contribution any time.

Straight answers

Is this tax-deductible?

No — and we'd rather say so plainly than let you find out at tax time. everythingcalgary.com is a locally owned business, not a registered charity, so we cannot issue a charitable receipt. What you're doing is backing a local business you find useful, the same way you'd back a local paper. You'll get an email receipt for your records, but it is not a charitable donation receipt.

Where does the money actually go?

Server and hosting costs, the data services behind the news, events, gas prices and listings feeds, the AI that powers the wellness service and the local news summaries, and the time it takes to keep 10,000+ listings and the events calendar accurate. It is not a big operation — which is exactly why a handful of monthly supporters makes a real difference.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Everything is processed by Stripe, and your card number is entered on Stripe's own hosted checkout page — it never reaches our server, so we could not store it even if we wanted to. We keep your email for the receipt, and your name only if you asked to be listed.

Can I cancel a monthly contribution?

Any time, no reason needed and no awkward retention conversation. Reply to your receipt email or use the contact form and we'll stop it the same day.

Will you put ads everywhere or paywall the site?

No paywall — ever. The whole reason this page exists is so the site can stay free to read. Local businesses can pay for featured placement, and that plus community support is the model. If you're reading this, nothing on this site will ever be locked behind a payment.

I'd rather support a specific part of the site.

Say so in the message box above, or get in touch. If you want your contribution going to the wellness service, event coverage or the local news gathering specifically, we'll put it there and tell you what it did.
