DJ Shadow at the Palace and the Flames Home to Seattle
What else is on this week
All Calgary events →Thursday and Friday: Endtroducing turns thirty at the Palace, the Flames try to shake off Edmonton, and a cold outdoor escape room at Heritage Park.
It's -7.9° and clear right now. Friday brings fog. Dress accordingly.
Tonight's pick is "DJ Shadow Celebrates 30 Years of Endtroducing" at the Palace Theatre, 7:00 pm. Thirty years on, that record still sounds like it was built in a basement out of everyone else's records, and hearing it through a proper system is the whole reason to go.
For something quieter, "Chris Murphy - Progressive Rock Vol. 1 with Peter Elkas" is at Modern Love at 8:00 pm. Small room, good songs, home before midnight.
Hockey fans get two nights. The "Calgary Wranglers vs. Laval Rocket ↗" game is tonight at 7:00 pm, and "Calgary Flames vs. Seattle Kraken ↗" is Friday at 6:00 pm. After losing Devin Cooley on a hit and getting blanked by the Oilers, the Flames need this one more than you need the beer. Go Friday if you have to choose; the Wranglers will draw a thinner crowd, but the stakes are lower too.
"Where Dark Things Dwell — Outdoor Escape Room ↗" runs at Heritage Park at 8:00 pm both nights. My take: tonight, with the overnight low near -8.6°, only if you own real boots. Friday's milder, and the fog will do the set designer's job for free.
With kids? "A Concrete Jungle Book ↗" is at StoryBook Theatre at 7:00 pm, and "SUE: THE T.REX EXPERIENCE ↗" opens at TELUS Spark from 9:00 am.
Late crowd: "Stacked Pres: Gorillat (Halloweekend)" starts at 10:00 pm tonight at Commonwealth. Friday, the same room flips to "World Famous Halloween ↗" at 9:00 pm. Bring a coat you won't mind losing at coat check.
