Peer Gynt, Commonwealth Halloween and Death From Above 1979
What else is on this week
All Calgary events →Halloween lands on a Saturday, the fog isn't lifting, and the best show of the week is on a Monday night at the Palace.
Fog all weekend, highs around five, and Halloween falls on a Saturday. The whole city's going out, so the lineups will be ugly by ten.
Start with the thing that doesn't care what night it is. "Alberta Ballet in Peer Gynt ↗" runs at the Jubilee Friday at 7:30 pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2:00 pm. Take the matinee. You're out before dark and your Halloween night is still intact.
Commonwealth is going hard: "World Famous Halloween ↗" Friday at 9, then "Monster Ball (Halloween Pregame) ↗" Saturday at 5:00 pm and "Haunted House Party - Pres. By Common Saturdays ↗" at 10. Three parties in two days at one bar is a lot of sticky floor. I'd do the 5 pm pregame, while you can still order without shouting, and leave before the 10 o'clock crush.
Where to? Modern Love, which runs "Modern Love Halloween ↗" Saturday at 9.
Sunday's for damage control. The "Calgary Hitmen v Kamloops Blazers - Tim Hortons Minor Hockey Day ↗" game drops the puck at 2:00 pm at the Saddledome, so expect a building full of kids in oversized jerseys. That night, "Laura Ramoso: The Calm Down Tour ↗" plays the Jubilee at 7.
Keep Monday open. "MRG Live presents: DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 - Private Lives Tour (Calgary) ↗" hits the Palace at 8:00 pm, and that's the show of the week I'd least want to miss. Tuesday brings "The Smashing Pumpkins: The Rats In A Cage Tour ↗" to the Saddledome. If you can only do one, pick the Palace. Smaller room, louder band, and you won't be squinting from the 300 level.
And "Ghazaleh Avarzamani: Churn, Earn, Burn and then Return ↗" is open at Contemporary Calgary from noon every day this week. Go Wednesday, when the rest of the city's still sleeping off the weekend.
