Peer Gynt, Sebastian Bach and Three Nights of Commonwealth Halloween
What else is on this week
All Calgary events →Halloween falls on a Saturday, so Friday's the dress rehearsal. Here's where to spend it, and which of Commonwealth's three parties to pick.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so the city will treat Friday like a dress rehearsal and Sunday like a hangover.
Start with the grown-up option. "Alberta Ballet in Peer Gynt ↗" runs at the Jubilee on Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm, with a 2:00 pm matinee Saturday. Take the matinee. You'll be out before the costumes fill the C-Train, with the evening clear for whatever bad decision you've already committed to.
Friday's loudest ticket is "Sebastian Bach with special guest Quiet Riot ↗" at Grey Eagle, 8:00 pm. It's a nostalgia show and it knows it. If you never owned a Skid Row cassette, skip it. Nothing here will convert you.
Commonwealth is running three nights straight: "World Famous Halloween ↗" Friday at 9:00 pm, then "Monster Ball (Halloween Pregame) ↗" at 5:00 pm Saturday and "Haunted House Party - Pres. By Common Saturdays ↗" at 10:00 pm. That's a lot of one room. Pick the pregame. It's early, the floor's still dry and you can leave with your dignity.
Smaller and less sweaty? "Modern Love Halloween ↗" goes Saturday at 9:00 pm.
Saturday's high is 5.4° under fog, the only half-reasonable day to be outside. The "Calgary Farmers' Market" is open if you need coffee and something with protein before any of the above.
Sunday is for recovering. "Sunday Safari Brunch ↗" at the Wilder Institute starts at 9:00 am, and "Calgary Hitmen v Kamloops Blazers - Tim Hortons Minor Hockey Day ↗" drops the puck at 2:00 pm at the Saddledome, which means a building full of kids in minor hockey jerseys.
And if you've still got ears left on Monday, "MRG Live presents: DEATH FROM ABOVE 1979 - Private Lives Tour (Calgary) ↗" plays the Palace at 8:00 pm.
